| Windows 7 Upgrade |
![]() I just performed our first Windows 7 Upgrade.I must admit that I was a bit hesitant to upgrade one of my users to Windows 7 so early after its release. I usually try to wait a minimum of six months. But we discussed it and he was a willing guinea pig. It helped my confidence a little bit that this particular user was very computer literate and I wouldn’t have to hold his hand after install. First step was to make sure that I had all of this users data backed up on the server and had all necessary software and licenses available for a clean install just in case things went horribly wrong. I scheduled 2 hours for the upgrade which is fairly normal for an OS upgrade but not for Windows 7. After going through some minimal questions like checking compatibility online and choosing between upgrade and Custom installs, the copying of files began. Three hours later there was still about twenty minutes left. Man, Windows 7 takes a long time to upgrade. Once the Windows 7 upgrade was complete I was happy to say there have been ZERO issues. As I already knew from beta testing it, Windows & is very similar to Windows Vista. There are some very cool features that I think new users will enjoy. As of right now I can agree with the other reviews of Windows 7 and say it is a huge improvement over Windows Vista and I would say not to worry about upgrade issues. I plan on doing more in the near future so I will keep you informed of any Windows 7 issues I encounter.
